Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
