The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record People Watching was declared the best record of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots had in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous small stages across Britain.

The donation supported venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues arising from floods, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations were granted monetary aid in improving infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted artists and audiences.

"The concept that funds from concerts in major spaces helps the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

He is among several artists to contribute his award winnings to good deeds.

When Pulp won the prize in 1996 for their record the album, lead singer the singer stated that the band would contribute their prize money to the charity the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer she divided her award between multiple organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Two years ago, they donated their winnings to the community center that developed their band, alongside other local music groups.

And winners that year the group donated their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Heather Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust announced it had saved several small stages in the South East, by placing them under local control.

One venue in the city and the other in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "shares" in the buildings.
